Keeping Watch by Night
With each of our kids, my wife has gone through Braxton-Hicks or false labor, increasing gradually, but inconsistently, in that season of end-times expectancy, near 40 weeks of days. The truth is, it's hard to distinguish false labor from labor until the baby begins to appear. If you haven't had kids, this won't make any sense. The uncertainly of labor was especially apparent in our 4th. We suspected Braxton-Hicks up to the end, and only then did we know false labor was final labor!
Even when you see it coming, it's an unanticipated instant in time that it comes. It was an unexpected instant in time when Joseph had to find shelter for Mary, even though they had seen it coming for some time.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Jesus described His future coming with the word for labor or travail.
All these are the beginning of sorrows [travail].
For when they say, “Peace and safety [security]!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
Like His first appearing, His second appearing will be proclaimed by an angel.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.
Not in Darkness
Those keeping watch will not walk in darkness, even if it's night! To them, His coming will not be as a thief.
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’
The people who walked in darkness
Have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death,
Upon them a light has shined.
But to those not watching and not longing for His appearing, He will come as a thief.
Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.
40 Weeks
We're approaching 40 weeks of seven years, or Sabbatical Years, since that first Sabbatical Year when since Jesus was crucified, rose again, and ascended into Heaven, and there are signs of labor.
If Jesus ascended in 30 AD, we're nearing 7 years from the end of 40 Sabbatical weeks.
No Peace & No Security

Care for sheep and keep watch for His appearing!
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
