Why isn't anyone questioning this "hoax"?

Suddenly news outlets and twitter profiles are regurgitating the same accusation that the Carlee Russell abduction is a hoax.  This wouldn't be so scary and suspicious if it weren't so unanimous.

Who is this police chief trying to impress with his purple jacket?  Why would he reveal so many privacy-violating and likely HIPAA protected details?  Usually when something is a hoax (a common occurrence), police do not typically feel obligated to "prove" their conclusion to the press through vague and questionable revelations.  Is the jacket a "message" for those whom he's proving cover?

The terrible and horrific implication is complicity.  Someone is covering for someone.  Thank the Lord that Carlee was able to get free of whatever evil she encountered.
